Job summary

Platte Canyon School District is seeking a Mechanic to maintain and repair school vehicles and equipment. Responsibilities include diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and preparing records in compliance with federal and state regulations.

The role requires a High School diploma, a CDL BP2S, a Colorado Technicians Inspectors license, First Aid/CPR, and 3 years of diesel/auto experience. Occasional snowplow duties and bus route driving may be required.

Qualifications

  • Verbal and written communication in English; ability to read and follow instructions.
  • Knowledge/ability to diagnose and repair engines, chassis, drivetrain including 4WD systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair school vehicles and equipment including diagnostics and preventive maintenance.
  • Complete vehicle maintenance records to comply with Federal and State regulations. All tools provided.
  • Locate, order, purchase and pick up parts.
  • Perform welding and machine work to complete repairs.
  • Assist other technicians when needed.
  • Perform service road calls for District vehicles.
  • Be flexible on call for snowplowing and vehicle recovery.
  • Drive school bus routes as needed.
  • Work cooperatively with supervisors and coworkers; uphold District policies.

Job description

POSITION: Mechanic
REPORTS TO:

Transportation Director

SCHEDULE:

9hours per day, 4days per week. Based on 2026-2027 academic calendar

SALARY:

Initial placement on the Board approved 2026-2027 salary schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must obtain/retain a Commercial Drivers' License BP2S
  • Must obtain/retain the Colorado Dept. of Education Technicians Inspectors License
  • Must obtain/retain First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • Three (3) years of diesel and /or auto work experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform all responsibilities involved in the maintenance and repair of school vehicles and equipment, including diagnosis, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance and repairs
  • Complete all vehicle maintenance records and documents to comply with Federal and State regulations. All tools provided.
  • Locate, order purchase and pick-up parts.
  • Perform welding and machine work to the completion of repair work.
  • Assists other technicians when needed.
  • Performs service road calls for District vehicles.
  • Is flexible on call for snowplowing, vehicle recovery.
  • Drive school bus routes as needed.
  • Has the ability to work cooperatively with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Maintains a generally positive attitude
  • Observes all District policies and procedures
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly and 100lbs. occasionally.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • Verbal and written communication skills in English and demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions.
