Job summary

Kroger is seeking a motivated candidate for a department manager trainee role in Knoxville, TN. The program spans 4–12 weeks and prepares you for a department manager position, with internal and external components and division-wide travel for training and relief.

You will lead Meat/Seafood operations, set performance goals, and ensure top-class customer service while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with associates and promote teamwork to help achieve store goals.
• Establish performance goals for department and empower associates to meet or exceed targets.
• Develop scheduling to manage customer volume across hours of operation.
• Adhere to local, state, and federal laws, guidelines, and food safety regulations.
• Create welcoming environment and assist customers with product questions in the department and store.
• Develop and implement a department business plan to achieve results.
• Create and execute sales promotions with store management.
• Educate associates about promotions and ads; stay current on pricing and promotions.
• Prepare seasonal critiques and support promotional planning for the department.
• Monitor inventory and note discrepancies.
• Plan and supervise price changes and shelf signage.
• Organize and supervise inventory processes; monitor expenses.
• Train staff on inventory, CAO systems, and stocking procedures.
• Ensure proper temperatures and safety protocols; report unsafe conditions.
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and report needed repairs.
• Report safety risks and any irregular activities; follow company policies.
• Supervise and coach direct reports; conduct performance reviews.
