Job summary

The Texas Department of State Health Services in Houston, TX seeks an Inspector V to perform complex inspections of meat and poultry facilities, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, HACCP, SPS and SSOP standards, and regulatory requirements.

You will prepare detailed technical reports, coordinate with the MSA unit, collect samples, monitor sanitation, and participate in disaster response and COOP duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Course work in animal/food science or related field preferred.
• USDA-FSIS training or certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate livestock slaughter and meat/poultry establishments for compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
• Prepare and submit technical reports detailing violations and corrective actions.
• Collect tissue samples and monitor microbiological sampling programs as required.
• Assist with disaster response, continuity of operations (COOP) duties, and coordination with MSA/FSIS programs.
