Job summary

Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is seeking qualified inspectors to ensure meat, poultry, and related products meet federal safety standards at establishments in Montana. You will verify SSOP and HACCP plans, document noncompliance, and determine when enforcement action is necessary to protect public health.

Responsibilities include inspecting records, conducting on‑site verifications, communicating requirements with plant management, and performing regulatory sampling to identify

Qualifications

• Specialized knowledge of meat, poultry safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Experience applying HACCP/SSOP principles in a production or inspection setting.
• Ability to communicate findings and enforcement decisions clearly.

Responsibilities

• Execute inspection methods to ensure safe product and identify noncompliance.
• Verify SSOP and HACCP plans meet regulatory requirements.
• Document noncompliance and initiate enforcement when warranted.
• Review plant records, observe operations and prepare Non‑Compliance Records.
• Assess need for regulatory action and effectiveness of corrective actions.
• Engage with plant managers to explain legal requirements and corrective plans.
• Conduct sampling and testing for regulatory compliance and safety.
