Job summary

Food Safety and Inspection Service seeks a Consumer Safety Inspector to ensure meat and poultry establishments meet safety standards and regulatory requirements. You will inspect operations, verify HACCP/SSOP compliance, collect samples, and prepare detailed documentation of any non-compliance.

You will determine when enforcement is warranted and communicate findings to plant managers while coordinating with other federal agencies as needed.

Qualifications

• Specialized experience in regulated food commodities or related products for human consumption.
• Ability to collect samples, perform tests, and report findings clearly.
• Proven skill in maintaining professional contacts with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Inspect establishments to ensure safe product production and determine non-compliance.
• Verify SSOP and HACCP plans meet regulatory requirements and are properly executed.
• Review records, observe operations, and document non-compliance actions.
• Assess need for regulatory control actions and enforce appropriately.
• Engage plant managers to explain requirements and discuss corrective actions.
• Coordinate with other agencies and provide enforcement guidance as needed.
• Conduct sampling, surveys, and tests to gather data on trends and issues.
• Assist in entry and inspection oversight related to consumer protection matters.
