Job summary

Stew Leonard’s is seeking a Culinary Assistant (Meat Gourmet) for a full-time hourly position. You will mix and prepare gourmet meat products, maintain freshness, and provide top-notch customer service in a fast-paced environment.

Ideal candidates are at least 18 years old with basic computer skills and a willingness to learn. No prior experience required; training provided. The role includes standing, lifting, and adhering to safety standards in a temperature-controlled department.

Qualifications

• Safely use/operate knives, hand chopper, mixer, cube steak machine and meat wrapper.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Mix and prepare all gourmet meat products using established recipes.
• Examine cases and prepare production plan based on item priority.
• Maintain, fill and rotate products for quality and freshness.
• Gather necessary ingredients based on production needs.
• Wrap and label product.
• Provide excellent customer service by greeting customers and responding to questions.
• Ensure work area is clean and ingredients are put away at end of shift.
• Adhere to health, sanitation and safety regulations.
• Assist in other duties as assigned.

Stew Leonard’s, a family-owned and operated fresh food store founded in 1969, has locations in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. Stew’s earned its nickname, the \"Disneyland of Dairy Stores\" because of its country-fair atmosphere, with costumed characters and animated entertainment throughout the store that keep children entertained while parents shop.

Culinary Assistant (Meat Gourmet)

Full Time Hourly – Estimated pay range $17.75-18.50 depending on qualifications and experience

Must be at least 18 years and older

Position Description:

The Meat Gourmet Culinary Assistant mixes and prepares the full range of gourmet meat items according to established standards and recipes. Team members work safely and adhere to all food safety and sanitation standards to provide customers with the highest quality gourmet products.

Your day-to-day:

• Mix and prepare all gourmet meat products using established recipes
• Examine cases and prepare production plan based on item priority , being mindful of high sales volume products
• Maintain, fill and rotate products for quality, freshness, and proper dates
• Gather necessary ingredients based on determined production needs, being mindful of seasonal items
• Wrap and label product
• Provide excellent customer service by greeting customers and responding to questions
• Ensure work area is clean and ingredients are put away at end of shift
• Adhere to all health, sanitation and safety regulations
• Assist in other duties, as assigned

Qualifications:

• 18 years of age or older
• Entry level position; no experience required (MB note – would we hire from the outside for this position or move someone with experience into the role?)
• Safely use/operate knives, hand chopper, mixer, cube steak machine and meat wrapper
• Basic computer skills (MB note - ordering signs)

Working Conditions:

• The temperature in the department is colder than room temperature due to the products being highly perishable
• The position requires frequent walking, standing, lifting, pushing and pulling with a maximum of 25lbs and occasionally climbing and reaching.
