Job summary

Our Butcher Shop in Morris Plains, NJ is seeking a Meat Clerk (Back of House) to assist packaging poultry, wrapping and preparing meat products, and support daily department operations to ensure customers receive the highest quality goods.

Weekend availability is required; prior butchering experience is welcome but not required. We value dependable, hardworking team players who provide excellent service in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Knowledge of automatic/hand wrapping machines preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment while providing excellent customer service.
• Able to work all shifts or shifts as provided with schedule.

Responsibilities

• Weighs, packages, wraps, and labels cuts of meat and poultry, including grinds.
• Inspects and stores meat upon delivery; ensures quality standards are met.
• Ensures meat cases are fully stocked and rotated by expiration dates.
• Receives and unpacks meat and poultry in the meat cooler and freezer.
• Cleans and sanitizes all equipment and displays in the meat department.
• Maintains store policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned

Job description

Our Butcher Shop is looking for a Meat Clerk (Back of House) to support our busy and growing department! In this role, you'll work behind the scenes packaging poultry, wrapping and preparing meat products, and assisting with a variety of daily department operations to ensure our customers receive the highest quality products.

While previous butchering experience is not required, it is a plus and always welcomed. We're looking for team players who are dependable, hardworking, and committed to providing excellent service. Responsibilities:

1. Weighs, packages, wraps, and labels cuts of meat and poultry, including grinds. Assists the meat cutter in packaging freshly cut meats and poultry. May grind hamburger meat
2. Inspects and stores meat upon delivery. Ensures that all delivered meat meets or exceeds company quality standards
3. Ensures the meat cases are fully stocked. Rotates meats and poultry, according to expiration dates. Follows established guidelines when disposing of damaged and/or expired products
4. Receives and unpacks meat and poultry in the meat cooler and freezer
5. Cleans and sanitizes all equipment, display fixtures, and areas in the meat department, including the meat cooler, freezer, and refrigerated display cases
6. Maintains all store policies and procedures
7. Other duties and functions as assigned

Working Conditions

1. Most of the time is spent moving about continuously on hard surfaces. There may be a need to frequently position oneself to examine and/or scan merchandise, including bending, climbing, crawling, handling, pulling, reaching, and stooping.
2. May require lifting objects up to 30 pounds. May require lifting and moving heavy and/or awkward objects more than 30 pounds with assistance.
3. Usually in a comfortable indoor environment surrounded by moving machinery and/or loud equipment that may require shouting in order to be heard. There could be exposure to temperature extremes from freezers, ovens, and/or coolers.
4. There may be occasional exposure to cleaning agents, sharp objects/industrial equipment necessary to perform job duties and functions.
