Job Summary:
The Meat Clerk is responsible for assisting customers at the meat counter, preparing and packaging meat products, maintaining product displays, and ensuring a clean, safe, and well-stocked department. This role requires attention to detail, knowledge of meat cuts, and a strong commitment to customer service and food safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Greet and assist customers in a friendly, knowledgeable manner.
Cut, weigh, wrap, and label meat and seafood products accurately and attractively.
Maintain and replenish meat and seafood displays, ensuring freshness, proper rotation, and attractive presentation.
Follow proper procedures for storing, handling, and preparing meat products to ensure quality and food safety.
Clean and sanitize all tools, equipment, and work areas regularly in accordance with health and safety standards.
Receive, inspect, and store deliveries to ensure product quality and accuracy.
Stay informed about current specials, products, and customer preferences.
Assist with inventory control, including checking stock levels and minimizing waste.
Follow store and department policies and procedures at all times.
Qualifications:
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Basic knowledge of meat cuts and safe food handling practices (training can be provided).
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Previous meat department or food service experience is preferred, but not required.
Work Environment:
Cold storage areas, refrigerated cases, and wet/slippery floors are common.
Fast-paced retail setting with regular customer interaction.
Use of sharp tools and machinery required (with proper training and safety protocols).
