Job summary

New Seasons Market is seeking a Meat Clerk to join the Meat Department in Palm Desert. You will assist customers, learn department codes, and help prepare meat products and prepared foods such as marinades and stuffers.

The role involves weighing items, labeling and packing purchases, and maintaining displays and stock levels across coolers, counters, and freezers.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred, or equivalent.
• 1-3 months related experience and/or training may be considered.
• Experience in a retail meat department is a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Meat Clerk obtains or prepares food items requested by customers by performing the following duties. (Other duties may be assigned):

• Responsible for learning procedures and products offered for sale in the Meat Department.
• Must learn all codes used in the Meat Department.
• Responsible to learn general cooking procedures and usage for all meat products.
• Responsible for learning the production of prepared food items. (marinades and stuffers)
• Satisfies customer requests by obtaining items from behind the Meat Department counters.
• Labels and packages customer purchases in such a way as to avoid spills or leakage and to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Accurately scales all weighable merchandise, including the use of correct tare codes, to determine price.
• Set up displays and stock shelves, coolers, counters, bins, tables, freezers, containers, or trays with new merchandise.

Education and/or Experience

High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the Meat Clerk is regularly required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger; handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.The Meat Clerk occasionally is required to reach with hands and arms.The Meat Clerk is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.The Meat Clerk must frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and color vision.
