Job summary

Serta Simmons Bedding, LLC is seeking to fill a Plant Hourly, Non-Exempt position in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will assemble mattresses using pneumatic tools, apply layers, and ensure quality of components and finished units.

The role requires standing 8+ hours, lifting up to 120 lbs, and teamwork to meet production demands. Safety and lean practices are emphasized across shifts.

Qualifications

• Must stand and walk for a minimum of 8 hours per day and be able to lift heavy product up to 120 pounds multiple times per hour.
• Heavy loads must be team-lifted.
• Must understand and follow work instructions and production tickets.

Responsibilities

• Assemble mattresses as outlined in established work instructions using pneumatic tools (e.g., c-ring hog-ring guns, staple guns, hot glue guns).
• Inspect mattress components and finished units for defects.
• Follow safety procedures and Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement practices.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Assemble mattresses as outlined in established work instructions using a variety of pneumatic tools (e.g., c-ring hog-ring guns, staple guns, hot glue guns). This includes the assembly of Hot Melt Bond (HMB) units on the HMB machine; application of various, specified upholstered layers to HMB and open coil units; foam-encased pocketed coil units; application of specified upholstery layers; foam encasing and final mattress assembly.

Functional/Technical Competencies

• Work experience with pneumatic tools and/or in a manufacturing environment, preferred.

Experience/Education

• Inspects mattress components and finished units for unacceptable flaws or structural defects.

Job Factors/Work Environments

• PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  Must stand and walk for a minimum of 8 hours per day or longer in overtime situations as required. Also, must be able to lift heavy product or raw materials up to 120 pounds multiple times per hour during an 8-hour shift or longer in overtime situations to meet customer demand. Heavy loads must be team-lifted. Production within the range specified for the position is required to maintain integrity of make-to-order system.
• MENTAL DEMANDS:
  Must be able to comprehend and follow work instructions and production tickets. Must be able to understand and follow verbal instructions; communicate with coworkers and management clearly and respectfully; and work in an ever-changing, fast-paced team environment.
• WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  Safety-focused, fast-paced manufacturing plant engaged in Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement. Work environment includes a clean and safe work area and exposure to high noise decibels, hot raw materials, fire-retardant materials, and limited chemicals. Personal Protective Equipment is required to be worn for any hazards and is supplied by the company.
