Job summary

JEI Learning Center San Diego is seeking a part-time Math Tutor to support after-school programs for elementary through high school students. The tutor will follow JEI's curriculum, guide students to understand concepts, and help them develop problem-solving independence in a patient, encouraging environment.

Ideal candidates have at least 1 year of math tutoring, strong math knowledge, and excellent communication. Center hours are M-F 3:30 PM–7:30 PM, with 2–3 days per week preferred.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of mathematics teaching or tutoring experience.
• Strong knowledge of arithmetic through algebra, geometry, precalculus, and/or statistics.
• Ability to work patiently and effectively with children and teenagers.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Dependable, punctual, and responsible.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Minimum 12-month commitment required.
• Teaching credential/certification is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree or current enrollment in a college/university is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Tutor 1–4 students per class according to each student's learning needs.
• Follow JEI's curriculum, instructional procedures, and center policies.
• Guide students toward understanding concepts and solving problems independently.
• Monitor and record student progress on a daily basis.
• Conduct weekly checks to assess students' understanding of lesson objectives.
• Identify students who are struggling or not making progress and notify the Supervisor.
• Provide guidance and support based on each student's level and learning needs.
• Participate in planning and coordination of individual student learning programs.
• Maintain a positive, respectful learning environment.
• Work collaboratively with instructors and center staff.
• Be detail-oriented, flexible, consistent, and reliable.
• Perform responsibilities with minimal supervision following center procedures.

Open Position: Math Tutor (Part-Time)

We are seeking an enthusiastic, responsible, and experienced Math Tutor to join our after-school tutoring program in San Diego.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with students, has strong mathematics knowledge, and can patiently guide students through challenging concepts while encouraging them to think and solve problems independently.

• Participate in the planning, organization, implementation, and coordination of individual student learning programs
• Maintain a positive, respectful, and productive learning environment
• Work collaboratively with other instructors and center staff
• Be detail-oriented, flexible, consistent, and reliable
• Perform responsibilities with minimal supervision while following established center procedures
  

Schedule

Center Hours:

Monday–Friday, 3:30 PM–7:30 PM

Candidates should be available to work at least 2–3 weekday afternoons per week, with preference given to candidates who can maintain a consistent schedule.

Compensation

$20.00–$22.00 per hour

Pay rate will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and teaching ability.

Hiring Process

Qualified candidates may be asked to participate in:

• A mathematics assessment
• A short teaching demonstration

We will evaluate candidates on both mathematical knowledge and their ability to guide students effectivelythrough the learning process.
