The Mathematics Teacher is responsible for teaching mathematics to students in grades 6 through 12, delivering instruction aligned with the K–12 Hillsdale Program Guide. They are expected to demonstrate high moral character and have mastery of the subjects they teach. Teachers will work collaboratively to create a working and learning environment for all students that is safe, secure, and respectful. This role requires a teacher who is passionate about the beauty and logic of mathematics, committed to high academic standards, and eager to engage students at various developmental levels—from foundational middle school skills through high school Geometry, Algebra II, Calculus and beyond.
Description
The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Adhere to the school’s mission and the principles of classical education
- Plan lessons and deliver instruction according to Lafayette’s classical curriculum and pedagogy
- Develop and maintain a climate and culture of joy, order, and wonder in the classroom, managing student misconduct promptly and appropriately
- Engage professionally and charitably with students, parents, other faculty, and staff
- Model good judgment, prudence, virtue, self-discipline, and responsibility
- Engage in professional development to deepen understanding of subject content and classical pedagogy
- Use appropriate learning processes, record keeping, assessment, evaluation, and performance analysis to support student learning
Key Responsibilities
- Teach mathematics courses across grades 6–12, ensuring alignment with the school's classical curriculum and academic expectations.
- Develop and deliver clear, rigorous, and engaging lessons that cultivate mathematical reasoning, fluency, and problem-solving.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs and abilities of students, including support for remediation and enrichment as needed.
- Monitor student progress in key areas including math fact fluency, computational accuracy, logical reasoning, and conceptual understanding.
- Identify students needing additional support or challenge and provide appropriate support or enrichment.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to strengthen both subject mastery and instructional practice.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, classroom expectations, and academic needs.
- Maintain accurate grading and timely feedback in accordance with school policies.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school-related events as needed.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s Degree in preferred field preferred)
- Experience teaching middle and/or high school mathematics (grades 6–12); minimum of 3 years preferred
- Familiarity with or interest in classical education and the Hillsdale K–12 curriculum
- Strong instructional, organizational, and classroom management skills
- Commitment to academic excellence and professional growth
Working Conditions
- Full-time position covering the academic school year.
- Occasional evening and weekend responsibilities may be required for school events or parent meetings.
