Job summary

The Jewish Leadership Academy in Miami seeks a dynamic Middle & Upper School Mathematics teacher for August 2026. The role spans grades 6–12 and may include teaching one science/engineering period for credentialed candidates.

Candidates should bring at least five years of teaching, a math degree, and a passion for inquiry-based learning. You will join a values-driven faculty and contribute to Friday program, advisory work, and school-wide initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Five years of teaching experience with middle and upper school students.
  • Undergraduate degree in mathematics or closely related field.
  • Commitment to mission and values alignment with JLA.
  • Ability to guide inquiry-based projects and experiments.
  • Strong collaboration across departments.
  • Fluent in Google Workspace for Education and adaptable to new tech.

Responsibilities

MATH DEPARTMENT

The Math Department at JLA offers students an in-depth and rich sequence of core and elective courses designed to develop problem-solving skills, foster creativity, and spark curiosity about the world. Our mathematics curriculum, built on the Art of Problem Solving (AoPS), emphasizes both conceptual understanding and applied, rigorous practice.

The Middle School Math Curriculum offers the following honors, accelerated, and advanced classes:

  • Math Grade 6
  • Math Grade 7
  • Pre-Algebra (honors and AoPS)
  • Algebra 1 (honors and AoPS)
  • Geometry (honors and AoPS)
  • Algebra 2 (honors and AoPS)

The Upper School core curriculum offers the following honors, honors-enriched, and advanced college-level classes:

  • Algebra 2 (honors and AoPS)
  • Precalculus (honors and AoPS)
  • Number Theory & Counting and Probability (AoPS)
  • Calculus (honors and AoPS)
  • Statistics (honors and AoPS)
  • AoPS Competition Prep

We seek faculty with a growth mindset, eager to continually expand their teaching practice, integrate new tools and technologies, and prepare students for success in college and beyond.

POSITION

We are seeking a teacher who can teach mathematics at the middle and upper school level. This position may also involve teaching one period of science or engineering, should the candidate have the appropriate background credentials.

Moreover, this person understands that they are being hired to be more than a math teacher. Given our unique Friday programming, this teacher, along with all other teachers at the school, will have responsibilities that include advising a service learning program, helping to lead House competitions, and contributing to the school's growing advisory program.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Full-time employment for faculty teaching positions will commence in August 2026.

Responsibilities will include:

  • 20 teaching periods per week (5 periods daily, Monday–Thursday)
  • Advisory, media literacy, research, service learning, or mentorship role as part of our unique Friday schedule
  • Tutorial sessions twice weekly
  • Office Hours once weekly
  • Robust professional development throughout the year
  • Special onboarding and leadership programming with students during the first 3 weeks of the school year

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for candidates who have experience working with middle and upper school students, a minimum of five years of teaching experience, and an undergraduate degree in mathematics or a closely related field (advanced degree preferred); however, we are looking for so much more than that. We are looking for someone who is:

  • Mission-driven and aligned with JLA's values

  • Comfortable guiding students through open-ended, inquiry-based projects and experimentation
  • Eager to work collaboratively on high-functioning teams across departments
  • Fluent in Google Workspace for Education and comfortable with new technology

  • Energized by working with high-performing, highly motivated students and colleagues
  • Experienced working with gifted and talented students (an asset, not a requirement)
