Job summary

Sinai Akiba Academy seeks a Technology & Innovation Teacher to collaborate with the Curriculum Coordinator in delivering a robust J-STEAM program across ECC-8th grades.

You will teach Middle School J-STEAM electives (robotics, coding, drones) and K-5th J-STEAM curriculum, inspiring young students in design thinking and digital citizenship.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree; Teaching Credential a plus
  • Minimum two years Educational Technology and/or Makerspace experience
  • Innovative, cross-curricular approach to education
  • Ability to collaborate with and inspire other teachers to use technology in curricula

Responsibilities

  • Teach design thinking, digital citizenship, and inquiry-based learning in technology education
  • Develop lesson plans aligned with ISTE Standards
  • Instruct students in proper use and safe handling of technology equipment
  • Plan and deliver ECC-8th grade educational technology programs with the Curriculum Coordinator

Job description

The Technology & Innovation Teacher works collaboratively with the Technology & Innovation Curriculum Coordinator to implement Technology and Innovation curriculum through design and project-based learning activities in SAA’s Innovation Lab as well as in ECC-8th grade classrooms. The Technology & Innovation Teacher (TT) teaches Middle School J-STEAM electives (e.g. robotics, coding, drones). The TT is also responsible for teaching our K-5th grade J-STEAM curriculum and is responsible for teaching basic coding concepts to young students. The TT, along with the Technology & Innovation Curriculum Coordinator, works with all teachers to further integrate educational technology into the curriculum and work to provide a robust cutting-edge J-STEAM program for all our students. This is a full-time, exempt position directly reporting to the Director of Lower & Middle School and collaborating with the Technology & Innovation Curriculum Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach skills, knowledge, and concepts of design thinking, digital citizenship, and inquiry-based learning through courses in technology education to students, utilizing curriculum
  • Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the School’s educational philosophy and ISTE Standards to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students
  • Instruct students in the proper use, care, and safe handling of all technology-related equipment
  • Collaborate with the Technology & Innovation Curriculum Coordinator to plan and deliver an ECC-8th grade educational technology program in line with design thinking practices and ISTE standards (that involve multiple learning modalities and a variety of hands-on learning opportunities)
  • Evaluate the academic and social-emotional progress of students, and keep appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities, as necessary
  • Maintain safe storage and ensure proper use of materials, equipment, and tools.
  • Establish and maintains standards of student behavior and engagement for a productive learning environment during class sessions
  • Evaluate each student’s growth in knowledge and skills in the course being taught
  • Participate in Staffulty meetings, committees and sponsorship of student activities
  • Supervise students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the school day
  • Communicate proactively with families and Division Director re: student progress including but not limited to: JagNet use and messages, emails, report card narratives, parent-teacher conferences
  • Differentiate instruction to a variety of learning styles and needs
  • Learn, use, and apply technology as required by School to enhance learning, provide feedback to students and parents, and engage with colleagues. Technology includes but is not limited to JagNet, Google Workspace, Paylocity, and any other School approved software.
  • Ensure the preparedness, maintenance, cleanliness, and robustness of the Innovation Lab
  • Maintain professional competence by attending professional development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities
  • Participate in various student and parent activities which occur in the school including student clubs and after-school activities
  • Create an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers
  • Act as a Middle School advisor as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or Head of School in support of the school’s mission

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Annual Salary Range: $72,000 - $84,000
  • Excellent benefit package with a portion of medical paid by SAA

In the spirit of pay transparency we share the base annual salary range for this position: $72,000 - $84,000. Annual base salary is exclusive of fringe benefits, retirement plan employer contributions or potential stipends (for eligible employees). Pay ranges at SAA are reasonable estimates of what the School anticipates paying for a role but are not guaranteed. If hired at SAA, your final annual base salary will be determined by factors such as skills, education, experience, job level, part-time status and number of months of work per academic year. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity with our current employees as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full annual base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical for SAA in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
