Mathematics - Part Time Lecturer Pool
Department of Mathematics
Position

The Department of Mathematics at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part-Time Lecturer Pool. Applicants should be experienced, student‑centered instructors capable of teaching the following courses:

  • Math 110 – Mathematics for Liberal Arts Students
  • Math 115 – College Algebra
  • Math 120 – Elementary Statistics
  • Math 125 – Precalculus
  • Math 130 – Calculus for the Natural Sciences
  • Math 135 – Business Calculus
  • Math 150A – Calculus I
  • Math 150B – Calculus II
  • Math 170A – Mathematical Structures I
  • Math 170B – Mathematical Structures II
  • Math 250A – Calculus III
  • Math 250B – Introduction to Linear Algebra and Differential Equations
  • Math 338 – Statistics Applied to Natural Sciences

The appointment is part‑time, generally for credit‑bearing lower‑division courses. The lecturer is responsible for the course, sometimes under the supervision of a faculty member. Teaching may involve multi‑section coordinated courses, requiring adherence to coordinated course policies and general syllabi.

Duties
  • Provide classroom instruction.
  • Prepare course materials and administer assignments to students.
  • Administer examinations, grade student work, assess performance, and determine course grades.
  • Hold scheduled office hours.
Appointments

Appointments from the part‑time pool are temporary and often made just before the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice.

Required Qualifications
  • A master’s degree in mathematics or a related field.
  • Applicants for Math Education courses (MAED) will be considered with a bachelor’s degree, a secondary teaching credential in mathematics, and significant high‑school teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a culturally diverse student population, including first‑generation college students.
  • Strong evidence of mathematics content knowledge.
  • Proficient spoken and written English communication skills.
  • Professional presentation and demeanor.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior university‑level teaching experience.
  • Significant teaching experience with diverse populations and a collaborative, inclusive environment.
  • Relevant professional experience and performance record.
Appointment and Salary

All part‑time faculty are appointed as lecturers under the CSU collective bargaining agreement. Initial appointments are for one semester only. The salary range is $5,507–$6,677 per month; the anticipated hiring range, depending on qualifications, does not exceed $6,221 per month. Compensation is prorated to units worked and paid in six monthly payments for each full semester. Typical starting compensation ranges from $6,608.40 to $7,465.20 per semester or $1,001.40 to $1,244.20 per month for a three‑unit assignment.

Performance Evaluation

Regular performance evaluations are made by the department in accordance with faculty collective bargaining agreements and university policy. These evaluations determine retention for future teaching assignments.

Reporting and Background Requirements

The position holder is a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with CSU Executive Order 1083. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check, and continued employment requires ongoing background screening.
