Job summary

Texas Wesleyan University’s Academic Support Center seeks an ASC Math Tutor (Work Study or Student Assistant) to provide one-on-one and small-group math tutoring and to help students develop stronger study skills.

You will maintain a weekly schedule, participate in tutor training, and keep tutoring records while collaborating with professors to obtain relevant materials for ASC. You may also assist with front-desk duties and other ASC tasks to support student success.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/ GED required.
• Successfully completed courses in subject area tutoring with a grade of “A” or “B” at Texas Wesleyan (exceptions upon discretion of the Director).
• Successfully demonstrate skills in subject by scoring the minimum required score on grammar and proofing test.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 (exceptions upon discretion of the Director).

Responsibilities

• Provide academic tutoring services by maintaining a weekly schedule of available hours for appointments.
• Attend tutor training workshops as required.
• Keep accurate records of tutoring appointments by filing tutoring reports.
• Maintain contact with professors in your subject of expertise in order to obtain pertinent materials for the ASC .
• Assist undergraduate students with assignments.
• Tutoring appointments are intended to assist students in becoming better students.
• Assist with additional duties as needed such as covering the front desk, scheduling tutoring appointments, answering phones, organizing materials and maintaining information in the ASC .
