Position Overview

The Math Certified Project-Based Learning (PBL) Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-aligned mathematics instruction through project-based learning experiences that strengthen mathematical reasoning, critical thinking, and student engagement.

Working closely with the Instructional Coach and Site Coordinator, the Math PBL Teacher provides differentiated instruction, monitors student progress, utilizes assessment data to guide instruction, and creates meaningful learning experiences that connect mathematics to real-world situations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Learning
  • Deliver engaging project-based mathematics instruction aligned with Florida's B.E.S.T. Mathematics Standards.
  • Facilitate small-group and whole-group math instruction that supports diverse learning needs.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the academic needs of individual students.
  • Teach mathematical concepts through hands-on investigations, collaborative projects, and real-world problem-solving activities.
  • Foster mathematical reasoning, computational fluency, and critical thinking skills.
  • Create an engaging classroom environment that encourages curiosity, collaboration, and confidence in mathematics.
Assessment & Data
  • Administer and monitor student assessments as directed.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify learning gaps and guide instructional planning.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and academic performance.
  • Collaborate with the Instructional Coach to implement targeted interventions based on student achievement data.
Classroom Management
  • Establish and maintain a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
  • Implement positive classroom management and behavior support strategies.
  • Maintain direct supervision of students at all times to ensure student safety.
  • Follow all organizational safety procedures and emergency protocols.
Collaboration
  • Collaborate with the Instructional Coach to implement curriculum, instructional best practices, and data-driven instruction.
  • Work closely with the Site Coordinator and program staff to ensure high-quality program implementation.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required trainings.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, academic growth, and behavior as needed.
Program Responsibilities
  • Prepare engaging daily lesson plans and instructional materials.
  • Incorporate educational technology, manipulatives, and interactive learning strategies into instruction.
  • Support family engagement events, STEM activities, and academic showcases.
  • Maintain instructional materials and classroom organization.
  • Follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Big Ideas Educational Services Staff Handbook.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the program.
Qualifications
Required
  • Valid Florida Professional or Temporary Teaching Certificate with Mathematics, Elementary Education, or a related certification appropriate for elementary instruction.
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of classroom teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience teaching elementary-aged students.
  • Knowledge of Florida's B.E.S.T. Mathematics Standards.
  • Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use student assessment data to guide instruction.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a professional learning team.
  • Successful Level II Background Screening.
  • Completion of required DCF Child Care Training (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Project-Based Learning (PBL).
  • Experience teaching mathematics intervention or enrichment.
  • Experience working in after-school, summer, or expanded learning programs.
  • Knowledge of hands-on mathematics instruction and STEM integration.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) preferred.
