Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty to help students meet learning outcomes.
  • Provide academic support for students who are having difficulty meeting the learning outcomes of the math courses.
  • Provide individual and group tutoring and mentoring to math students.
  • Recognize and respond to students according to their learning needs and use strategies to aid understanding.
  • Maintain and provide data on students assisted, time spent, and type of assistance provided.
  • Serve as a resource for math students at risk and provide necessary assistance.
  • Attend math courses as requested to ensure teaching consistency.
  • Hold office hours/open support time in the HUB.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Summary

Full-time/Part-time Part-Time Position Type Temporary Job Summary/Basic Function

The responsibility of this temporary position is to provide assistance to students enrolled in the Math courses, with a primary focus on corequisite Math courses. This position will be providing support in and out of the classroom, as needed by students and the instructor.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrated competence (at least an A-) in MATH 107 (Liberal Arts Math), MATH 110 (College Algebra), or MATH 140 (Pre-Calculus) or a comparable course.
  • Completed the equivalent of two years of college course work.
  • Strong foundation in math skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Prior experience with teaching or tutoring.
  • Candidate must be committed to student retention and success and display exceptional interpersonal and team-working skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference to candidates with experience in individual and group mentoring and tutoring at the college level.
  • Two years’ experience working at the college level.
