Job summary

Fork Union Military Academy seeks a dedicated middle school math faculty member to teach Math 7, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra I in a college-preparatory program. You will support cadet development within a Christian environment, participate in weekly chapel, and serve as an advisor to a group of cadets.

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree, have a math-related credential or coursework, and be committed to student success and professional growth within the Academy’s community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Major concentration in math or 24 semester hours in math content area.
  • Teaching license preferred but not required.
  • Support the Academy mission, chapel duties, and advisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Math 7, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra I.
  • Develop and maintain a well-organized classroom that inspires learning.
  • Attend weekly chapel and begin each class with a devotional.
  • Serve as advisor to a cadet group and supervise extracurricular activities.
  • Provide timely grades and informative responses to parents.

Education

Fork Union Military Academy, an all-boys boarding school located in the beautiful central Virginia region near Charlottesville, Richmond, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, is seeking a dedicated professional for our academic department.

Job Title: Middle School Faculty(Math)

Department: Academic

Direct Supervisor: Director of Science and Mathematics & Academic Dean

Essential Job Functions and Requirements:
  • Adheres to and supports the Academy mission of educating the body, mind, and spirit of our cadets within a Christian environment. Faculty will conduct themselves at all times as appropriate role models for the cadets within their charge and while representing the Academy.
  • Provides quality academic instruction consistent with appropriate educational and developmental requirements for adolescent age boys in a college preparatory academic program. Instruction will follow the Middle School curriculum guide for each course and will include appropriate planning and preparation for instruction and developing/maintaining a well-managed classroom environment that inspires learning.
  • Works diligently toward the academic and overall success of each cadet, with the goal of consistent improvement and achievement both within class and in outside activities.
  • Adheres to and supports Academy standards of proper appearance, decorum, and timely fulfillment of required duties. These duties include weekly attendance at chapel, a devotional to begin each class day, serving as advisor to an assigned group of cadets, supervising/coaching outside-the-classroom extracurricular activities, and assigned extra duties in the barracks.
  • Supports and collaborates with colleagues and engages in an ongoing focus of professional growth and development both individually and collaboratively.
  • Provides timely and complete administrative reports and grades as required, and informative responses to requests from parents for information.
  • Is knowledgeable of and supports the VAIS Standards of Accreditation as they apply to instruction and applicable faculty activities.
  • Maintains professional credentials and/or appropriate degree requirements.
  • Teaching license preferred but not required.
  • Teaching duties will include Math 7, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra I

Work Schedule: Per contract and when school is in session

Educational Requirements: Instructors must have earned a minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. They should have a major concentration of study in the content area courses taught the majority of the instructional year or, alternatively, earned 24 semester hours of credit in the content area. For courses taught less than half of the instructional year they must have 12 semester hours in the content area taught. In some circumstances, alternative training or experience may suffice.
