Job summary

Ranger College in Texas is seeking a TRIO SSS Professional Tutor specialized in Mathematics and academic skills to support first-generation and low-income students. You will tutor Math topics from developmental through upper-level college math, help with writing and study strategies, and promote independent learning.

The role includes maintaining FERPA-compliant records, attending TRIO staff meetings, and collaborating with faculty to identify early interventions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Math Education, STEM, or a closely related field.
• Proficiency in tutoring writing mechanics, essay structuring, and college-level study strategies.
• Experience working with diverse, underrepresented, first-generation, or low-income student populations.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and technological skills.
• Availability to work one evening per week (4 hours per week) during Fall and Spring semesters.

Responsibilities

• Direct Academic Instruction & Tutoring: Provide specialized, individual, and small-group tutoring in Mathematics (e.g., Algebra, Calculus, Statistics), introductory writing, and general research/editing skills.
• TRIO Student Success & Mentorship: Support retention and persistence of first-generation/underrepresented students; assist with LMS navigation and faculty expectations.
• Program Administration & Tracking: Maintain confidential attendance/session records using FERPA-compliant software; participate in staff meetings and program evaluations.
