Overview

Math (6th Grade) role at Hillsborough County Public Schools. Summary: The Secondary Teacher (grades 6-12) is responsible for the instruction of designated content area(s)/course(s) in a classroom setting within a secondary school. 6th grade math.

Responsibilities
  • Designs and implements appropriate instruction of content area(s)/course(s) assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs.
  • Creates a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport.
  • Creates and delivers relevant and rigorous lessons that maximize student engagement and achievement.
  • Utilizes a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds to meet the needs of students.
  • Observes and evaluates student performance and mastery of standards, monitors assessment data, and maintains student grades and attendance.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom by utilizing effective classroom management strategies and applying appropriate disciplinary procedures.
  • Communicates with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourages parental involvement.
  • Takes responsible precautions to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains and secures confidential records, inquiries, and data as required.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and engages in professional development as required.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned. Responsibilities and tasks outlined are not exhaustive and may change as determined by the needs of the district.
Qualifications
  • Florida Professional Educator Certificate preferred. Eligibility for Florida Temporary Certificate required.
  • Language Skills: Reads, analyzes, and interprets documents; responds to inquiries; writes and presents effectively to managers, the public, and school board.
  • Mathematical Skills: Works with concepts such as probability, statistical inference, geometry, and trigonometry; applies fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Solves practical problems and interprets instructions in various forms.
  • Computer Skills: Knowledge of relevant and current computer software programs.
Other Information

Communications: Expresses ideas verbally and in written form; listens well; keeps others informed.

Job Knowledge: Competent in required job skills; capable of applying new skills and staying current with developments; requires minimal supervision.

Judgment: Demonstrates sound and timely decision-making and involves appropriate people as needed.
