Job summary

Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY, is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support nursing staff in the Maternity department. You will assist with admissions, transfers, discharges, and transport, and perform assigned patient care tasks for neonates and other patients, under RN supervision.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, AHA BLS certification, and at least one year of PCT or equivalent acute care experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• AHA Basic Life Support certification is required.
• One year of experience as a PCT or similar acute care position is required.

Responsibilities

• Assists in delivering patient care per scope of service and RN directions.
• Assists with admissions, transfers, discharges, and patient transport.
• Obtains and records vitals and lab values and reports abnormalities to the RN.
• Demonstrates competence in advanced skills including phlebotomy for adults, EKG, and newborn hearing screens.
• Communicates effectively with healthcare team members and documents in hospital systems.
• Maintains cleanliness and restocks patient care areas and supplies.
• Maintains attendance and participates in mandatory in-services to maintain unit competencies.
• Assists with code situations (e.g., CPR) under Code Blue Team direction.
• Adheres to infection control and safety policies including using two identifiers for blood draws.
• Maintains unit environment and coordinates with other departments as needed.
• Demonstrates adherence to Vassar Brothers Medical Center values and professional standards.
• Performs other duties as required.
