Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Perinatology in Fayetteville, NC seeks a Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer to perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations and provide expert care. You will assess, record, and interpret imaging findings, communicating results to the Perinatologist.

The role requires ARDMS/RDMS certification, Nuchal Translucency or Fetal Echocardiogram credentials, and a two-area ARDMS Level II certification, with CPR on file.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate of AMA approved Sonography program.
• ARDMS RDMS certification required.
• Nuchal Translucency or Fetal Echocardiogram certification required.
• Level II ARDMS certification in two areas required.
• Current AHA CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

• Operate technical ultrasound equipment and perform diagnostic exams.
• Conduct abdominal, ob-gyn, vascular, infant head/hip/spine studies and interventional procedures as assigned.
• Use sonographic skills to identify and adapt procedures based on anatomy and pathology.
• Differentiate normal vs. pathologic findings with independent judgment.
• Analyze images, synthesize medical history, and communicate findings to Perinatologist.
• Ensure patient safety, comfort, and proper positioning during exams.
• Collaborate with health care team and assist daily ultrasound department operations.
• Maintain equipment and supplies; handle administrative tasks as needed.

Major Job Functions

• Competence in the technical operations of all equipment
• Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic ultrasound examinations.
• Exams include, but may not be limited to, abdominal, vascular, small parts, ob-gyn, vascular, infant head/hip/spine, and interventional procedures.
• Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
• Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
• Analyzes sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the Perinatologist.
• Assume responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care.
• Communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team, recognizing the special nature of sonographic examinations and patient's needs.
• Assists with the daily operations of the ultrasound department.
• Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area and maintains adequate supplies.
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

Education And Formal Training

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Graduate of AMA approved Sonography program required
• ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) required and
• Nuchal Translucency Certification OR Fetal Echocardiogram Certification required
• Level II sonographer must hold ARDMS certification in 2 areas, required
• Current AHA CPR certification required

Work Experience

• 2 years of experience required
