Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Health is seeking an Ultrasound Technologist for the Fayetteville, NC area. You will perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures, operate equipment, assess patients, and document exam details in the Radiology Information System (RIS).

You will ensure infection control, patient safety, and quality of care while supporting education of student sonographers and participating in department improvement projects.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate of AMA approved Sonography program required.
• ARRT (Sonography) or ARDMS RDMS preferred; registry within 12 months if registry-eligible.
• Current AHA CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

• Competent in technical operations of ultrasound equipment and sections.
• Assess patients, review orders and confirm exam reason.
• Document clinical history and obtain signed consent when needed.
• Prepare patients and communicate with supervising radiologist on protocols.
• Record exam times in RIS for timely radiology access.
• Maintain infection control and patient safety standards.
• Monitor exam timeliness and contribute to quality improvement.
• QA exams for correct order, annotation and laterality.
• Mentor students in ultrasound clinical education.
• Participate in department's Performance Improvement Projects.

Summary

The Ultrasound Technologist is fully competent to perform all diagnostic procedures for the Diagnosis of specific diseases or conditions.

Major Job Functions

• Competent in the technical operations of all equipment in this section
• Assess patients, review orders/chart as appropriate confirming reason for exam
• Ensure pertinent patient symptoms and clinical history are documented and a signed consent form is present if needed
• Prepare patients for procedure, answer any questions and effectively communicate with the supervising radiologist for special instructions and/or questions regarding exam protocol
• Responsible for prompt completion and accurate recording of exam begin and end time in the Radiology Information System (RIS) to ensure timely access to study by the radiologist
• Provide safe environment to include infection control guidelines, universal precautions and patient safety goals
• Monitor the timeliness of exams and quality of care based on established department goals, striving for continuous quality improvement
• Perform QA of exams (correct order, accurate/complete image annotation, correct laterality) prior to sending to radiologist for interpretation
• Participate in the clinical education of student sonographers
• Participate in department’s Performance Improvement Projects
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

Education And Formal Training

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Graduate of AMA approved Sonography program required
• ARRT (Sonography) or ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer(RDMS) preferred
• New graduates who are registry eligible must be registered by either ARDMS or ARRT (Sonography) within 12 months of hire date required
• Current AHA CPR certification required

Work Experience

• 1 year experience preferred
