Job summary

Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking dedicated Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) Sonographers to join our Radiology department. Candidates may be placed as Level I or Level II based on experience, core competencies, and board certifications.

We are primarily seeking clinicians with 3+ years of experience, but entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply. Level I focuses on routine obstetrical ultrasound under physician guidance, while Level II involves independent, complex exams and leadership of

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program with ARDMS OB/GYN certifications.
• Experience with obstetrical ultrasound and QA workflows.
• Ability to coordinate care in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Independently perform routine obstetrical ultrasound procedures and basic/complex exams as qualified.
• Coordinate daily clinical workflow and scheduling as a Board Runner.
• Mentor staff sonographers, fellows, residents, and trainees.
• Lead QA initiatives and evaluate new imaging equipment.
• Provide backup support to leadership and participate in research initiatives.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) Sonographer / Senior Sonographer

Department: Radiology / Clinical Services

Facility: Boston Children's Hospital

Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours/week (Day Shift)

Position Type: Direct Hire

Compensation: $40 - $71 per hour (Depending on experience/level)

Sign-On Bonus: Up to $15,000.00 for eligible new hires

Position Overview

Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking dedicated Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) Sonographers to join our world-class Department of Radiology. Candidates will be evaluated for placement as either a Level I MFM Sonographer or a Level II MFM Senior Sonographer based on years of clinical experience, core competencies, and board certifications.

We are primarily seeking clinicians with 3+ years of experience, but strongly encourage promising entry-level candidates to apply.

Level I - MFM Sonographer

• Target Experience: 0-3 years
• Key Responsibilities:
• Perform routine obstetrical ultrasound examinations following departmental protocols under physician guidance.
• Collaborate closely with Radiologists and MFM physicians to review imaging requisitions and ensure clinical accuracy.
• Assess patient and family needs to deliver compassionate, pediatric- and family-centered care.
• Maintain departmental Quality Control (QC) and Exam Data Integrity workflows.
• Document findings accurately, report equipment issues, and participate in continuing medical education.

Level II - MFM Senior Sonographer

• Target Experience: 3+ years
• Key Responsibilities:
• Independently perform both routine and complex obstetrical ultrasound procedures.
• Serve as a Board Runner to coordinate daily clinical workflow and scheduling.
• Act as a clinical mentor and resource for staff sonographers, fellows, residents, and trainees.
• Lead Quality Assurance (QA) initiatives, evaluate new imaging equipment, and optimize operational workflows.
• Serve as backup to the Assistant Chief Technologist or Manager when needed.
• Participate in clinical research projects and champions departmental initiatives.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Education & Credentials: Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program with appropriate ARDMS certifications in OB/GYN (MFM-related specialized experience preferred).
• Clinical Knowledge: Strong background in obstetrical ultrasound, patient triage, and technical imaging protocols.
• Core Skills: Ability to navigate electronic health records, troubleshoot technical imaging issues, and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary medical teams.
