Job summary

Pediatrix Medical Group, Inc. is seeking a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer for our Maternal-Fetal Medicine Clinic in Houston, Texas. This full-time position offers a Monday to Friday working schedule, focusing on high-risk MFM ultrasounds and providing collaborative care to patients and physicians.

Ideal candidates are expected to possess an accredited sonography program degree, eligibility for ARDMS OB/GYN certification, and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills. The role includes performing fetal anatomical surveys and assisting with procedures while maintaining high standards of patient care.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent.
  • Maintain or be eligible for ARDMS certification.

Job description

Overview

Join Pediatrix Medical Group as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in our Maternal‑Fetal Medicine Clinic, performing high‑risk MFM ultrasounds and supporting patients and physicians in a collaborative care environment. Candidates should be graduates of an accredited sonography program with ARDMS OB/GYN eligibility and CPR certification. This full‑time role offers a Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM schedule with no weekends or holidays for excellent work‑life balance, and onsite parking is fully covered by the practice.

Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed fetal anatomical surveys, including twins and triplets.
  • Assist physicians with procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling.
  • Accurately document exam findings, measurements, images, and procedural details in the ultrasound reporting and image archiving systems.
  • Record patient history, indications, and pertinent observations in accordance with departmental protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Generate clear, comprehensive preliminary reports for interpreting physician review and final signature.
  • Review completed studies with interpreting physicians to communicate findings, address questions, and support diagnostic accuracy.
  • Ensure documentation is complete, timely, and compliant with organizational policies, accreditation requirements, and patient safety standards.
  • Select and assign appropriate exam types, procedures, and indication codes based on services performed, clinical documentation, and provider orders to support accurate reporting, interpretation, and billing.
  • Escort patients and accompanying family members to and from the examination room in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Prepare patients for ultrasound examinations by verifying identity, reviewing relevant history, and ensuring comfort and privacy.
  • Explain complex procedures and examinations to patients and family.
  • Provide reassurance and clear communication throughout the exam to support patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction.
  • Ensure the appropriate consent and/or declinations are obtained.
  • Maintain proper operation of the ultrasound equipment and take appropriate corrective action if malfunctions occur.
  • Maintain laundry for examination rooms.
  • Ensure adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies.
  • Follow accredited laboratory protocols for obtaining two‑dimensional images, color flow, Doppler, and m‑mode where applicable.
  • Follow and comply with universal precautions, OSHA standards, and safety and security training.
  • Rotate to other locations as needed to cover Sonographer absences.
  • Perform related and other assigned duties as directed.
Education
  • Satisfactory completion of one of the following: graduate of an accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent, at least two years in an Allied Health Educational Program and one year of on‑the‑job training in ultrasonography, or graduate from an accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent.
  • Maintain or be eligible for certification as an American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS).
  • ARDMS OB/GYN or Fetal Echo (FE) certified or eligible to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Provide evidence of continuing education credits to fulfill accreditation requirements.
  • NT experience or certification preferred.
  • CPR certification preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum six months experience as an ultrasound technician working in OB/GYN and/or MFM setting preferred.
Skills and Abilities
