Job summary

University of Dayton is seeking qualified NDE professionals to support the NDI team at UDRI. The role involves inspecting aircraft-related parts using ultrasonic methods and contributing to data analysis, procedure development, and new techniques.

Responsibilities include day-to-day inspections, data processing, and equipment operation. A mix of qualifications from high school through bachelor’s engineering degrees is considered, with DoD project experience a plus.

Qualifications

  • ASNT or NAS410 Level 2 certification/experience in Ultrasound preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Science is preferred.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain Secret clearance due to federal contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement ultrasonic inspection techniques.
  • Operate and maintain ultrasonic equipment (shearwave, phased array, immersion).

Position Summary:

This person will work with the Nondestructive Evaluation (NDI) team lead in support of evaluating, performing, integrating and advancing NDE methods for military aerospace applications. Inspection of aircraft structures, engines, and support components for damage due to in-service or manufacturing induced flaws will be performed on metallic, composite, hybrid, and nonmetallic materials. Inspections will be performed in accordance with existing standards and procedures or to qualify and create new techniques meeting those standards. Duties include day to day inspections of parts and components, data processing and evaluation, authoring and establishing new techniques for ultrasonic inspection, operation and maintenance of ultrasonic equipment (shearwave, phased array, immersion) as well as other NDE disciplines/techniques as necessary to accomplish the testing requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:
R2 Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalen
  • 4 years of ASNT or NAS410 Level 2 experience in Ultrasound with sufficient hours to achieve UT Level 3 within 1 year.
  • Software: Microsoft word, Power Point, Excel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Shall have demonstrated ability to produce ultrasound techniques from a written procedure.
  • Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen and ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
R3 Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 8 years of experience in NDE methodologies.
  • ASNT or NAS410 Level 3 in Ultrasound.
  • Software: Microsoft word, Power Point, Excel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen and ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
R4 Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 20 years of experience in NDE methodologies.
  • Software: Microsoft word, Power Point, Excel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Leadership Skills.
  • ASNT or NAS410 Level 3 in Ultrasound.
  • Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen and ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

Preferred Qualifications in addition to minimums per Grade:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Science.
  • Hands-on experience with DoD equipment.
  • ASNT or NAS410 Level 3 Ultrasonics.
  • ASNT or NAS410 Level 3 in multiple other NDE disciplines.
  • Familiar with requirements to maintain NAS410 certification.
  • Proficient in: Eddy Current, Ultrasound, Radiography, Computed Tomography, Liquid Penetrants.
  • Eddy Current experience.
  • Hands-on experience with NDE of composite materials.
  • Secret Clearance.
  • Experience with mentoring and training junior level associates.
