Job summary

The Maine Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Aide to join the Materials Testing & Exploration Section at the MaineDOT Central Laboratory in Bangor. This entry-level role provides hands-on support for testing and evaluation of construction materials, with training in MaineDOT procedures and testing methods.

Responsibilities include routine testing of soils and aggregates, data recording, and assisting laboratory staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, and training or work experience which would demonstrate a knowledge of basic mathematics and an ability to read and comprehend manuals, maps, charts, and graphs.

Responsibilities

• Performing routine laboratory testing of soil and aggregate samples in accordance with established MaineDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM procedures.
• Preparing, weighing, measuring, labeling, and handling material samples; operating laboratory testing equipment and performing routine cleaning and care.
• Accurately recording, organizing, and entering test data and assisting laboratory technicians with testing activities and related laboratory projects.
• Following established laboratory and safety procedures, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and developing proficiency in additional testing and sampling procedures through training and experience.
