Job summary

The Maine Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Aide to join the Materials Testing & Exploration Section at the MaineDOT Central Laboratory in Bangor.

This entry-level role provides hands-on support for testing and evaluating construction materials used in Maine's transportation infrastructure. Training will cover MaineDOT procedures, lab equipment, testing methods, and applicable standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with basic mathematics knowledge.
• Ability to read and comprehend manuals, maps, charts, and graphs.
• Training will be provided in MaineDOT procedures, laboratory equipment, testing methods, and applicable AASHTO and ASTM standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory testing of soil and aggregate samples in accordance with MaineDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM procedures.
• Prepare, weigh, measure, label, and handle material samples; operate laboratory testing equipment and perform routine cleaning and care.
• Accurately record, organize, and enter test data and assist laboratory technicians with testing activities and projects.
