Job summary

The Maine Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Aide to join the Materials Testing & Exploration Section at the Central Laboratory in Bangor. This entry-level role provides hands-on support for testing and evaluating construction materials used in Maine's transportation infrastructure.

You'll perform routine soil and aggregate testing, assist laboratory staff with sample preparation and data entry, and gain practical laboratory experience with MaineDOT procedures and ASTM/AASHTO

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and ability to read and comprehend manuals, maps, charts, and graphs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine laboratory testing of soil and aggregate samples in accordance with established MaineDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM procedures.
  • Prepare, weigh, measure, label, and handle material samples; operate laboratory testing equipment and perform routine cleaning and care.
  • Accurately record, organize, and enter test data and assist laboratory technicians with testing activities and related laboratory projects.
  • Follow established laboratory & safety procedures, maintain a clean and organized work area, and develop proficiency in additional testing through training and experience.
