Job summary

The Maine Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Aide to join the Materials Testing & Exploration Section at the MaineDOT Central Laboratory in Bangor. This is an entry-level position providing hands-on support for the testing and evaluation of construction materials used in Maine's transportation infrastructure.

The Engineering Aide will work as part of a small laboratory team performing routine testing of soils and aggregates and assisting laboratory staff with sample

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, and training or work experience which would demonstrate a knowledge of basic mathematics and an ability to read and comprehend manuals, maps, charts, and graphs.

Responsibilities

  • Performing routine laboratory testing of soil and aggregate samples in accordance with established MaineDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM procedures.
  • Preparing, weighing, measuring, labeling, and handling material samples; operating laboratory testing equipment and performing routine cleaning and care.
  • Accurately recording, organizing, and entering test data and assisting laboratory technicians with testing activities and related laboratory projects.
  • Following established laboratory and safety procedures, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and developing proficiency in additional testing and sampling procedures through training and experience.
