Job summary

ECS Group of Companies in Buffalo, NY is seeking a Construction Materials Testing Intern Level I to observe and begin routine field and laboratory testing tasks in support of our projects. You will develop foundational technical skills while gaining familiarity with materials testing methods and project workflows, under supervision.

You will assist with data collection and documentation, perform basic data entry, and help maintain field and lab equipment, contributing to accurate field reports

Qualifications

• Pursuing an Associate, Bachelor, or Master in Civil Engineering or related field.
• One certification must be completed within 90 days; basic certifications within 270 days, including Radiation Safety, Soils I, and Concrete I.
• If driving for ECS, a valid driver's license is required.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Dependable, detail-oriented and organized work ethic.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to follow directions and work under close supervision; basic problem-solving and observational skills.
• Willingness to work outdoors in field conditions.
• Must lift a minimum of 85 pounds multiple times daily.

Responsibilities

• Assist with field and laboratory construction materials observation and testing activities.
• Observe and participate in testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, and other materials.
• Document site conditions and testing results in field reports.
• Assist with equipment preparation and organization for field and lab work.
• Perform basic data entry, calculations, and data reduction.
• Communicate with field staff, contractors, and project teams.
• Keep supervisors informed of changing site conditions or additional testing needs.
• Review laboratory results and support project documentation.
• Support lab testing activities, including sample prep, curing, and testing.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas.
• Notify supervisors of damaged or missing equipment.
• Attend project meetings with senior staff as requested.
