Job summary

SMS group Brandenburg is seeking a Materials Specialist to manage inventory, forecast needs, quote vendors, and create purchase orders to support production. This role involves cross-functional collaboration with Supervisors, Estimators, and Shop Supervisors to ensure timely material delivery and accurate BOM data.

You will optimize inventory turns, leverage GSS for procurement, and support supplier programs to maintain on-time delivery and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• Experience managing inventory and planning BOM
• Forecasting material needs and coordinating with vendors
• Creating and tracking purchase orders and vendor quotes
• Maintaining data accuracy in procurement systems
• Using Excel and standard office software for reporting

Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize inventory to support production schedules
• Forecast material needs and coordinate with Supervisors/Estimators
• Request quotes and attach to POs; maintain vendor documentation
• Enter and track POs in GSS with complete materials/drawings where needed
• Ensure BOM, routings, and lot sizes are accurate with Operations/PMs
• Drive on-time delivery by coordinating material deliveries with shop and logistics
• Identify and resolve discrepancies between Purchasing and Receiving
• Support JIT/VMI programs with suppliers and maintain safety stock levels
