Job summary

Casella Waste Systems, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Sorter for our Material Recovery Facility in Apalachin, NY. The role involves sorting recyclable materials on a conveyor, inspecting items, and placing them into designated areas by commodity, size, and grade.

You will work safely, wear PPE, and participate in ongoing training to uphold Casella’s safety culture and operational goals. A high school diploma or GED is required, and strong teamwork and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Team-oriented candidate with ability to work in a collaborative environment.
• Excellent verbal communication and reading comprehension in English.
• Strong focus on safety and following instructions.

Responsibilities

• Sorts recyclable materials to designated areas based on commodity, size and grade.
• Operates safely complying with regulations and company policies.
• Wears required PPE and maintains safety culture at all times.
• Sorts and handles materials according to goals of the facility.
• Performs cleaning duties on plant equipment and general housekeeping.
• Reports system problems to Supervisor promptly.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
• Completes initial safety training and attends ongoing trainings.
• Maintains excellent attendance and safety records.
• Participates in training to expand knowledge of company, products, and services.
