Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM, invites applications for a Materials Scientist Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Chemical Diagnostics and Engineering Group (C-CDE). The successful candidate will perform independent and collaborative research on materials including inorganic solids, polymers, coatings, adhesives, composites, and uranium-containing materials.

You will apply a range of characterization techniques (SEM, BET, XRD, Raman, FTIR, rheology) and study gas/solid

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science or related field; completed by appointment.
• Hands-on experience with chemical or physical characterization techniques.
• Ability to lead a project from conception to development and execution.

Responsibilities

• Apply and develop a variety of chemical and physical characterization techniques for inorganic and organic materials.
• Conduct research to understand reaction mechanisms and kinetics at gas/solid interfaces.
• Characterize polymers, resins, coatings, adhesives, composites, and uranium-containing materials.
• Design, assemble, and operate experimental systems under ambient and vacuum conditions.
• Prepare proposals, progress reports, and technical publications; work independently or in teams.
