Job summary

AMT in Brecksville, OH, is seeking a Materials/Polymer Scientist/Engineer to lead material projects from concept through production. You will apply polymer science, select materials, and work with design and manufacturing engineers to ensure manufacturability and device performance.

Collaborate with QA, develop test methods, characterize materials, and drive continuous improvement. You will analyze data, present results, source new materials, and maintain a safe, organized lab environment.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in polymer science/engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or related field.
• 2+ years of experience in a chemistry, polymers and/or materials lab with knowledge of polymer characterization, formulation and processing.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills with multitasking ability.
• Interest in science with curiosity for problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and test the performance of current materials.
• Research new/better materials for existing products.
• Spec out and/or design materials to support development of new products.
• Perform cost-benefit analysis of alternate materials.
• Collaborate with departments to consult on upcoming projects.
• Enhance materials with additives to improve bonding and durability.
• Evaluate surface modifications to enhance bonding of materials.
• Source and qualify new/alternate raw material suppliers.
• Maintain and improve quality, processing efficiency, and production cost of existing compounds and materials.
• Investigate manufacturing issues and implement effective countermeasures.
• Safely execute material characterization on lab equipment (tensile tester, DSC, ATR-FTIR, etc).
