Job summary

Battelle in Columbus, Ohio is seeking a Materials Science and Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to join our Advanced Materials group, focusing on synthesis, formulation and processing of polymeric, ceramic and metallic materials. The role is 100% onsite with responsibilities including literature review, formulation of adhesives, testing and evaluation of materials, and maintaining accurate lab records.

Eligibility requires being a sophomore or higher in a science‑based degree and U.S.

Qualifications

• Sophomore or higher enrolled in a science degree (chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science).
• Knowledge of lab procedures and capable of keeping accurate lab records.
• Ability to prepare and deliver written reports and presentations.
• U.S. citizen with ability to obtain government security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Literature review for materials research.
• Formulation of materials such as adhesives, sealants, and coatings.
• Physical and chemical property testing of materials.
• Testing and evaluation of materials such as rubbers, plastics, and metals.
• Work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment and keep accurate lab records.
