Job summary

Crafco, Inc. in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Research Engineer to lead formulation development and ensure specification conformance for asphaltic and pavement materials, coatings, adhesives, and silicone products.

You will work with the product development group on research across the Crafco portfolio, prepare production instructions, and document testing and results to support technical decisions and product improvements. Travel up to 25% is required.

Qualifications

• BS degree in science/engineering or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of three years' experience in formulation, evaluation and development of modified asphalt, pavement materials, sealants, coatings or related products.
• Strong working knowledge of asphalt modification and hands-on laboratory experience with asphaltic and pavement materials.
• Proficiency in rheology, including dynamic shear rheometry, interpretation of viscoelastic behavior, and familiarity with ASTM/AASHTO standards.
• Ability to develop, validate and document test methods when existing methods do not adequately address product performance.
• Knowledge of polymer chemistry and paving materials is preferred.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% and lift 50 pounds; clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Formulation development and specification conformance of asphaltic and pavement materials, coatings, adhesives and silicone products.
• Collaborate with product development on research across product portfolio (asphalt, coating, roofing, pavement preservation, adhesives, silicone).
• Issue and update raw material specs, production formulations, and manufacturing instructions.
• Adjust formulations to maintain in-spec materials at lowest cost while preserving quality and sustainability.
• Monitor raw material characteristics and adjust formulas to maintain uniform properties.
• Provide technical assistance to other company functions on uses of products.
• Communicate with vendors about raw materials used in products.
• Monitor specification conformance with QA Manager.
• Plan and coordinate experimental analyses for developing formulations and procedures; design experiments and analyze data.
