BARNES is seeking a Materials Planner for on-site operations in Warren, MI. You will manage capacity planning, detailed scheduling, and material requisitions while coordinating with production, engineering, and customer service to ensure on-time delivery.

  • Proven ability to interact with peers and management, and drive Lean improvements.
  • Excellent written and oral English communication.

Responsibilities

  • Plan capacity, schedule, and manage material requisitions and shop floor/inventory control.
  • Schedule work for operations/machines and maintain schedule execution considering materials and ship dates.
  • Align Master Schedule with booked/forecast Sales and Production Plans; monitor product lines.
  • Balance Capacity Plan and adjust schedules with production and materials supervisors.
  • Execute detailed scheduling and shop floor control to ensure adherence; monitor performance.
  • Collaborate with Engineering on introduction of new parts to production.
  • Coordinate changes, cancellations, and customer schedule push-ins/push-outs with CS and production.
  • Identify capacity constraints with Estimating and aid in capacity improvements.
  • Document process problems with proposed solutions to improve operations.

Job description

Core Responsibilities (Materials Planner Duties):
  • Responsible for Capacity Planning, Detail scheduling, Material requisitions and shop floor and inventory control.
  • Schedule work for individual operations/machines and develops, maintains and drive schedule execution, considering raw materials and shipping dates of products.
  • Ensure alignment of the Master Schedule in relation to booked and forecast Sales/Production Plan. May monitor various product lines.
  • Balance the Capacity Plan and communicate needed adjustments to production supervisors and materials supervisors. Alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions.
  • Execute decisions concerning detailed scheduling and shop floor control to maintain schedule adherence. Monitor Performance and correct problems.
  • Work with Engineering to manage the introduction of new parts into production.
  • Work with customer service and production to on all changes, schedule cancellations, and/or customer schedule push-ins/push-outs.
  • Work with estimating to proactively identify capacity constraints and facilitate improving capacity to ensure potential customer demands.
  • Identify and document process problems to management and quality with proposed recommended solutions to improve operations.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to build and maintain positive customer relationships
  • Experience in production scheduling and manufacturing or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Prior experience in Regulatory Compliance, Export Compliance (EAR and ITAR)
  • Advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • MRP system experience in production/material inventory control.
  • Knowledge of processes and machines related to products manufactured within given business unit.
  • Proven success interacting with peers, senior management and other functional areas.
  • Ability to work independently, to multi-task handling simultaneous work assignments and projects, and drive "Lean" process improvements
  • Advanced ability to communicate both written and orally in the English language
Education Requirements
  • BS Degree in Business or related field is preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
