Job summary

Boom Supersonic in Centennial, CO is seeking a Materials and Manufacturing Process Engineer intern/co-op. You will own defined material qualification, joining methods, surface coatings, and non-destructive testing with real accountability from day one.

You'll interact across design, propulsion, and manufacturing to move from concept to high-performance hardware, perform rapid failure analysis, and plan test campaigns. This internship offers hands-on experience in extreme-material applications.

Qualifications

• Degree in Materials Science & Engineering or related field with hands-on hardware experience.
• Experience with real-world engineering materials, testing, or process characterization during internship/co-op.
• Hands-on lab/shop experience with mechanical test frames, metallographic prep, heat-treat furnaces, or additive manufacturing.
• Fundamental understanding of materials behavior, fatigue, corrosion, and high-temperature oxidation.
• Track record of finishing hard things in and out of school.

Responsibilities

• Own a defined piece of the Materials Process domain with accountability for outcomes.
• Collaborate across design, propulsion, and manufacturing; move from concept to hardware.
• Characterize and validate extreme-environment materials for gas turbines and high-Mach flight programs.
• Perform rapid failure analyses using internal labs (e.g., SEM) to identify root causes and iterate solutions.
• Plan and execute test campaigns, including mechanical testing, DOEs for metallic additive, and development testing of investment casting tech.
• Help scope, procure, install, and commission new equipment and train others.
