Job summary

Chicago Tube & Iron in Saint Paul, MN is seeking a Materials Manager to oversee inventory control and material planning for our branch operations. You will lead inventory strategy, supplier relationships, and ensure material availability to meet customer commitments.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in a materials/inventory role, steel distribution experience preferred, and strong analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or five years of experience in an industrial environment.
• 5–7 years of experience in materials, inventory, purchasing, or supply chain roles.
• Steel distribution experience preferred.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to balance inventory, priorities, and customer needs.
• Leadership or coaching experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Review forecasts for major customers and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
• Manage branch's special inventory and procure to meet commitments.
• Develop and maintain vendor relationships.
• Identify and implement practices to reduce inventory and improve turns.
• Collaborate with Corporate Purchasing and CTI branches.
• Monitor aging inventory and adjust as needed.
• Review open purchase orders and optimize scheduling or expediting.
• Evaluate mill overages and determine actions for received materials.
• Maintain accurate inventory descriptions and data.
• Provide day-to-day leadership to Traffic Coordinators.
• Ensure timely reporting and effective communication with leadership.
• Train Traffic Coordinators and support ongoing education.
• Attend industry seminars and stay informed on market trends.
• Support special projects as directed by General Manager.
