Job summary

Chicago Tube & Iron Company in Indianapolis, IN is seeking an Inventory Clerk to join our on-site team. You’ll help maintain the right inventory levels by collaborating with purchasing, sales, transportation, and operations to ensure timely material availability.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in the metals industry, strong Excel skills, and excellent attention to detail. You’ll analyze forecasts, review open purchase orders, and coordinate transfers to optimize stock and support customer

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of business-related experience within the metals industry.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyze customer forecasts and inventory trends to maintain optimal stock levels.
• Review purchase orders placed by Corporate Purchasing and coordinate transfer shipments between branch locations.
• Monitor and manage aging inventory to maximize inventory performance.
• Review open purchase orders and determine opportunities to cancel, delay, or expedite orders based on business needs.
• Evaluate and process mill overages, including determining acceptance and disposition.
• Maintain inventory reserves and update stock screen memos.
• Partner with transportation and logistics teams to ensure timely material movement.
• Provide backup support to the Sales team when needed.
• Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
