Job summary

Clayton Homes is hiring for a full-time material handler at our Asheville, NC facility. You will move and organize lumber and materials, operate lifts, and ensure accurate documentation with strong safety practices.

You should be able to work independently or with a team, pass a forklift test, and handle physical tasks in an outdoor setting. Clayton offers competitive benefits and a supportive work environment.

Qualifications

• Must pass forklift operating test.
• Thorough understanding of engineered wood products (EWP).
• Knowledge of lumber species and types.
• Capable of working independently and in a team environment.
• Able to push, pull, bend and lift at least 50 lbs.
• Outdoor environment subject to weather, noise and dust.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Yard Supervisor and Materials Manager.
• Record lumber moves inside the facility.
• Record hours on lifts and enter in Sitedocs.
• Perform weekly safety stop audits on lift drivers.
• Organize and drive pulling/ loading/unloading of materials.
• Maintain quality documentation.
• Assist with quarterly inventory.
• Perform other duties as needed by management.

Movement of products and basic organization of product to specified areas of the facility. Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved. Opens containers, using steel cutters, crowbar, clawhammer, or other handtools. Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand. Loads materials into vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit, using handtools. Conveys materials to or from storage or work sites to designated area, using handtruck, electric dolly, wheelbarrow, or other device.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND DAILY TASKS

• Coordinates with Yard Supervisor and Materials Manager.
• Records all lumber moves inside the faciltiy.
• Records hours on all lifts and enters in Sitedocs.
• Peforms weekly safety stop audit on lift drivers.
• Organizes and drives the pulling, loading, unloading of materials during shift.
• Maintains quality expectation of documentation.
• Required to help with quarterly inventory.
• Performs other duties as required by management.

COMPETENCIES

• Must be able to speak and write clearly and professionally.
• Must be customer service oriented with a positive personality.
• Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with team.
• Knowledge of basic mathematics.
• Need to be able to identify product descriptions when picking orders.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Able to pass a test on operating a fork lift.
• Deep and thorough understanding of EWP(engineered wood products) is required.
• Deep understanding and background of lumber species and type is required.
• Must be capable of working independently and in a team environment.
• Able to push, pull, bend, and lift at least 50lbs.
• Other physical duties, as needed.
• High School Diploma or General Education Degree.
• 90% of work to be performed in an outdoor environment subject weather, noise, and dust.
