Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown is seeking a Materials Handling Attendant to manage hospital inventory and support Surgical Services stock. This role uses Workday handhelds to pick, deliver, inventory, and stock items across departments.

You will process returns, maintain accurate labeling, provide strong customer service, and help train new staff. Rotating holidays, 6am-2:30p, 40 hours weekly, on-site, non-exempt.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to requests for supplies and equipment per departmental policy.
  • Serve as the initial contact for all departmental inquiries from customers.
  • Perform Workday transactions: picking, delivering, issuing, receiving, inventorying and stocking via handhelds.
  • Process returns to Inventory Location 1 and restock, disposing of obsolete material.
  • Maintain high quality customer service, via phone and in person.
  • Report urgent stock shortages to Inventory Control Analyst or Supervisor.
  • Inspect Code Carts and ensure functionality per Hospital Policy.
  • Maintain accurate stock in Code Stretcher Luggage and EZIO Kits per policy.
  • Coordinate with SPD and Nursing to locate required centralized equipment when stock is depleted.
  • Print and affix patient charge labels when applicable.
  • Train new Materials Handling Attendants on handheld use.
  • Assist in inventory and stocking problem resolution.
  • Assist in orientation and training of new employees.
  • Receive and distribute full-service forms.

Job description

Receives, inventories, stocks, issues, handles, and distributes all supplies, equipment and instrumentation used throughout West Virginia University Hospitals which are the responsibility of Materials Management. Includes maintaining adequate inventory levels of supplies (stock) required to support activities for Surgical Services room stock.

  • 1. High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 1. In accordance with departmental policy and procedure, respond to all requests for supplies and equipment.
  • 2. Serves as the initial contact for all departmental inquiries from customers.
  • 3. Performs the above-described position using Workday. This includes picking, delivering, issuing, receiving, inventorying and stocking using Workday to perform appropriate transactions on the desktop or on handheld terminals (Zebra Handheld Computers). Detail and accuracy with these transactions are essential to Workday inventory management.
  • 4. Processes returns from customers to Inventory Location 1 (House Inventory) and re-stocks to correct bin while checking for and disposing of outdated, contaminated, damaged and/or obsolete material. This function is also essential to maintain Workday inventory management.
  • 5. Maintains high quality customer service, both over the phone and in person, using excellent communication skills with a courteous and professional customer service-oriented attitude at all times.
  • 6. Reports urgent or emergency stock shortages to Inventory Control Analyst or direct Supervisor.
  • 7. Inspects Code Carts (aka: E-carts, Emergency carts, Crash carts) to ensure that each cart and all accessories are functional and in good order. Maintains accurate inventory stock in Code Carts in accordance with the code drawer inventory lists to support the Hospital’s Code Cart Exchange Program per Hospital Code Team Policy (Policy IV.053).
  • 8. Maintains accurate inventory stock in Code Stretcher Luggage/Bags, and EZIO Kits in precise accordance with the applicable inventory lists per Hospital Code Team Policy (Policy IV.053).
  • 9. Coordinates with other SPD and Nursing personnel to locate and obtain required centralized equipment and/or supplies whenever the house inventory has been depleted.
  • 10. Prints and affixes patient charge labels where applicable to ensure that all charge items issued are appropriately labeled.
  • 11. Functions as the resource person for training new Materials Handling Attendants on the use of the handhelds.
  • 12. Functions as a resource person for inventory and stocking problems for all areas.
  • 13. Assists in the orientation and training of new employees.
  • 14. Receives and distributes full-service forms throughout the hospital.

  • 2. Must be capable of lifting up to 60 pounds and pushing loaded carts weighting in excess of 600 pounds.
