Job summary

General Motors (GM) is seeking a Material Industrial Engineer to optimize material flow and warehouse layouts at Spring Hill GPS. You will lead labor rebalances, determine efficient routing, and collaborate across GM teams to drive OpEx and LMS initiatives.

The role emphasizes data-driven decisions, safety, ergonomics, and effective interaction with material automation. Onsite, with travel <25% and relocation benefits per policy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of manufacturing experience.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience with supply chain optimization, material flow optimization, and/or layout optimization.
• Experience leading large and difficult continuous improvement projects with autonomy.
• Knowledge of robotic systems or general programming; labor optimization tools and time study analysis.

Responsibilities

• Drive improvements to material flow, including storage and dock strategies to support continuous improvement.
• Develop optimized warehousing layouts to maximize material flow efficiency and delivery routes.
• Collaborate with logistics teams to optimize dock schedules and parts management.
• Lead OpEx projects and LMS initiatives to rebalance labor and improve throughput.
• Design work operations meeting safety, ergonomic, quality, and takt requirements.
• Design interactions with material automation and develop layouts using AutoCAD.
• Provide floor support to UAW members and partners to improve safety, throughput, and standardized work.
• Develop time studies and clear work instructions to ensure staff safety and effectiveness.
• Assist programming and hardware logic for a fleet of automated material handling equipment.
