Job summary

Lycoming Engines, part of Textron, offers a hands-on 10-week internship in materials science and metallurgical testing at a Textron business unit in Williamsport, PA. You’ll perform mechanical tests, evaluate heat-treated parts, and assist in failure analyses while learning from engineers and mentors.

Applicants should be pursuing a B.S. in Materials Science/Engineering or Metallurgy, and be proficient with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; on-site work is required.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a B.S. in Materials Science/Engineering or Metallurgy.
• Familiarity with metallurgical lab procedures.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Performing mechanical properties testing.
• Evaluation of in-house heat-treated parts.
• Assisting with failure analysis projects.
• Checking incoming parts for metallurgical conformance.
• Evaluating microstructures of steel, aluminum, and other materials.
• Assisting in monitoring plating and cleaning solutions (wet chemistry).
• Documenting test and evaluation results.
• Communicating with engineers, mentor, and internal customers regarding materials investigations.
