Job summary

Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) is seeking a Materials Engineer to provide materials and processing analysis across product lifecycles for drivetrain components, welding and joining support, and collaboration with R&D, Quality, Production, and Supplier Management.

The role includes a starting salary range of $90,000 – $115,000 USD, with a comprehensive benefits package including annual bonus, 401k match, vacation, holidays, parental leave, healthcare, and wellness programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science Engineering or related field with 2-4 years of experience.
  • Thorough understanding of welding, joining, and non-destructive testing techniques.
  • LSO certification or ability to become certified.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with ferrous, copper, or aluminum alloys.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with SEM or Optical Microscopy and NDT techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Identify emerging developments in materials, materials processing including welding and joining.
  • Provide material/process expertise for internal and external partners to solve development and reliability concerns.
  • Demonstrated expertise in standard materials lab practices including sample prep, metallography, microscopy, and mechanical testing.
  • Perform failure analysis investigations to support internal and external partners.
  • Perform material process analyses (joining, heat treatment, casting, forging) to ensure standards and reliability.
  • Interpret material specifications for Daimler Truck powertrain components.
  • Identify opportunities and drive improvements with internal and external partners.
  • Value global collaboration and knowledge sharing across regions and business units.
