Position Summary:

We are seeking an innovative engineer to develop and optimize materials and processes for coatings (paints and stains), metals, and hardware. This role involves collaboration with design and operations teams to focus on coatings technology/process development and metals/hardware technology for manufacturing. The goal is to improve cost efficiency, quality, and performance of our products.

The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, leadership skills, and experience in developing and implementing materials and processes. The position is based at our Corporate Research and Development center in Bayport, MN.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects on coatings, metals, or hardware technology, providing recommendations and technical guidance.
  • Test and validate new materials in production settings.
  • Assist with implementing new processes in manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to develop innovative solutions.
  • Design and analyze experiments, report on new technologies.
  • Coordinate activities with other engineering teams.
  • Support cross-functional teams and other materials groups.
  • Stay updated on industry developments and explore their application.
  • Provide technical support, training, and specifications.
  • Serve as a technical contact for manufacturing partners.
  • Drive process improvements using statistical tools and analysis.
  • Define material specifications and control plans for manufacturing success.

Qualifications and Skills:

Must Have:

  • BSc in Chemical, Materials Science, or similar Engineering field.
  • Experience with coatings or metals processes, development, or testing.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Project management and teamwork experience.
  • Knowledge of product development principles.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and statistical software (e.g., Minitab, JMP).

Nice-to-Have:

  • Knowledge of coatings, metals, hardware, wood, adhesives, sealants, or composites.
  • Experience in the fenestration industry.
  • Strong analytical and materials analysis skills.

Compensation: The salary range is $77,255 - $119,745, based on experience, education, location, and certifications.

Additional Info:
