Job summary
West Virginia University is seeking a Manager of the Materials Characterization Facility within the Shared Research Facilities (SRF). The role leads the technical and operational aspects of the facility, housing X-ray diffractometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman microscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Optical ellipsometry with white light, and Atomic Force Microscopy.
The incumbent will manage all instrumentation operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Materials Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Master's or Ph.D preferred.
- Minimum five years in advanced materials characterization (XRD, XPS, Raman, AFM, SPM, FTIR, ellipsometry).
Responsibilities
- Maintain functionality of all MCF instrumentation.
- Perform in-house calibration and routine maintenance.
- Troubleshoot equipment and coordinate vendor support.
- Work with WVU research community and external users.
- Develop instrument protocols and training materials.
- Oversee MCF user community and safety protocols.
- Engage with faculty to align with university goals.
- Develop long-term strategic plans for MCF.
