Job summary

West Virginia University is seeking a Manager of the Materials Characterization Facility to lead the operational and technical activities of the MCF within the SRF. The role oversees calibration, maintenance, vendor coordination, and user support for instruments including XRD, XPS, Raman, FTIR, ellipsometry and AFM.

The role requires a strong background in materials characterization and a commitment to developing training, safety protocols, and long-term strategic planning for the facility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Physics, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Master's or Ph.D. preferred.
• Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
• All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain functionality of instrumentation in the MCF.
• Perform in-house calibration and routine maintenance.
• Troubleshoot equipment and coordinate maintenance.
• Work with vendors on repairs and upgrades.
• Assist WVU research community and external users with instrument use and data interpretation.
• Develop instrument protocols and training materials.
• Oversee MCF user community and safety protocols.
